Description
A finely executed pair of Thai narrative paintings illustrating scenes from The Khandahala Jataka, one of the traditional stories recounting the Buddha’s former lives. Rendered in the classical Central Thai style, the compositions depict animated mythological and courtly figures adorned with gilded ornament, set within lush landscape settings and flanked by decorative green foliate borders.
Executed in gouache with gold accents on paper. Both retain their original Surawongse Gallery label from Bangkok, Thailand.
