Antique Japanese Woodblock Print, Tanchosai Eishi, Silver Mica Ground
Description
A Japanese polychrome woodblock print depicting an elegant bijin (beauty) in elaborate floral headdress and richly patterned robes, by Tanchosai Eishi (1756-1829).
The composition features a finely executed silver mica (kira-zuri) background, a luxury technique associated with high-quality ukiyo-e production. The surface shows natural aging and oxidation.
Printed in the traditional ukiyo-e manner from carved woodblocks with hand-applied pigments on handmade washi paper.

Catalogue Note
Eishi was one of the leading masters of the bijin-ga tradition in the late 18th century. His refined portrayals of elegant women were widely reproduced in later periods, particularly during the Meiji era, when ukiyo-e prints were reissued for both domestic appreciation and export markets.
