19th C. Large Victorian Human Hair Mourning Wreath Memento Mori
Description
Victorian-era hair art piece, also known as a hair wreath or memento mori. This type of art was a popular domestic craft in the 19th century, particularly during the Victorian era, and involved arranging human hair into decorative shapes and scenes, often housed in a shadow box or frame.
Various techniques were used, including "palette work" and "table work, " where strands of hair were coiled, braided, and woven into intricate patterns like flowers, leaves, and wreaths.
