Antique Ink Drawing, After William Hogarth Simon Lord Lovat by William Hogarth,
The print depicts Simon Fraser, the 11th Lord Lovat, a notorious Scottish Jacobite leader who was later executed for treason.
Hogarth drew the portrait from life after Lovat’s arrest in 1746, while he was briefly stopped in St Albans on his way to the Tower of London.
Noted under sitter, Decemb 22th, 1732, signed W. Hogarth lower right. Measuring 14 x 10 inches H within the matting, frame measures 19.5 inches H x 16 W.
