Description
An antique Russian Orthodox icon depicting the Mother of God holding the Christ Child, painted in tempera on a wood panel and partially covered by an embossed metal oklad (riza). The faces and hands remain exposed in accordance with Orthodox practice, while the applied metal covering-likely brass or a copper alloy with gilt finish-features chased and punched decoration with radiating halos.
