Mathieu Mategot (1910–2001) "Bagdad" Table Lamp, circa 1954–55. A rare and iconic "Bagdad" table lamp by Mathieu Mategot, designed in France in the mid-1950s. The lamp features Mategot’s signature Rigitulle technique: perforated, folded sheet metal forming a faceted base with an elongated asymmetrical cone, terminating in a brass sphere. Lacquered in vibrant red, the lamp creates a dramatic light diffusion when illuminated. This highly sculptural form exemplifies Mategot’s fusion of industrial material with poetic line, and remains one of the most sought-after pieces of postwar French lighting design.
