Description
Antique Bronze Head of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara or Guanyin on Stand, depicting the Goddess of Compassion or Mercy with Amitabha Buddha in headdress. Likely part of a larger statue, the bronze head sculpture of Boddhisatva Guanyin dates to the 19th century, and shows intricate details and a compassionate expression. The bejeweled crown identifies her as the Goddess of Mercy, worshipped across Asia for her compassion and ability to relieve suffering. Mounted on a wood stand with original MMFA sticker. With original invoice from Gurie Gallery, dated 1965.. Head measures 14 inches H x 9 W x 9 deep, stand measures 9.5 inches W x 11.5 H. Repair to base.
