Muromachi period (1336-1573) exceptional wakizashi with NBTHK papers for blade and for koshirae. The tang is unsigned, but has been judged by the NBTHK (Society for preservation of Japanese art swords) to swordsmith Sue Mihara and the koshirae, also exceptional, has its own papers also attributed by the NBTHK. Furthermore, this sword was registered in 1951, the year that current sword registration system started in Japan. Such swords are called Daimyo (feudal Lords) registration swords as it was first Daimyo or other Daimyo-like wealthy families who owned many precious swords in the early stages of the newly introduced registration system to familiarize it to the society. Accordingly, there are many precious swords in the Daimyo registration swords, and many collectors prefers them. Total length is 24.80 inches (63 cm) and the nagasa or cutting edge is 16.80 inches (42.65 cm) the blade is exceptional with a hamon that runs all the way up to the kissaki, and shows a very nice itame hada. Some scratches and blemishes are expected on such an old blade. Overall an outstanding sword that belongs in a great collection. Circa late 14th-early 15th century. Comes with a silk bag. Please note the stand is not included in the lot.
